Director of Youth Confirmation, Teens & Young Adults

Position Purpose

The vocation of every member of Christ’s Faithful is first and foremost to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus.  The Director of  Youth Confirmation, Teens & Young Adults supports the pastor in preparing youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation and assisting the teens (middle school & high school), youth, and young adults (18-35) of our parish family to deepen their friendship with Jesus Christ after they have received their Sacraments.

Job Duties

  • Work with Fr. Lou and the staff of the Lakewood Catholic Parish Family to assist parishioners in growing in Faith and virtue.

  • Creates and runs events and programs that focus primarily on deepening youth and young adults’ knowledge of, and friendship with, Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

  • Establishes Fidelis and Fraternus programs through the parish.

  • Organizes, accompanies, and leads youth on summer programs and initiatives.

  • Assures collaboration with the school teachers to enrich the school children’s knowledge of Christ.

  • Assures the development of programs and activities for junior and senior high youth that foster spiritual formation. This should include, but not be limited to, retreats, religious education, socials, recreation, athletic activities, outreach programs, youth-oriented liturgies, and community service opportunities. 

  • Assures the development and implementation of faith formation programs for youth.

  • Recruits, enables, directs, trains, and supervises catechists and other personnel for faith formation programs for junior and senior high youth, including Confirmation, where applicable. Collaborates with teachers in Catholic elementary and high schools in developing and implementing Religious education opportunities. 

  • Coordinates evangelization outreach programs for youth.

  • Assures the development of programs and activities for young adults (ages 18-35) that foster spiritual formation. This includes but is not limited to retreats, religious education, socials, recreation, community service outreach, liturgical celebrations, and outreach to local colleges and high schools, and conferences such as SEEK and the parish Vocation Team.

  • Coordinates efforts to identify and involve young adults in the parish.

  • Develops and administers the youth program budget as delegated by the pastoral leader. 

  • Serves as staff to any Parish Youth Commission/Committee, assisting the chairperson in preparing the agenda and providing information and research for the Commission as requested and as available. 

  • Coordinates with the Director of Communications to appropriately interface social media presence where teens and young adults are online (eg. Discord, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat).

  • Assists at major parish events, especially encouraging the above groups of individuals to participate in the life of the Church and parish events as opportunities for evangelization.

  • Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for this Catholic ministry through regular updating, reading appropriate materials, and participation in workshops and conventions. Participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Believes everything contained in the word of God, whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by a solemn judgment or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth to be believed as divinely revealed.  Also firmly accepts and holds each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.

  •  Desires to grow in an authentic life of prayer and unity with Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) is strongly recommended.

Preferred

These attributes are not required, but could be beneficial for the job position above.

  • Degree in Theology or advanced education in teaching the Catholic Faith.

  • Experience in the field of study.

  • Other experience in leadership and organization.
